We’ve won the SPRIND Circular Biomanufacturing Challenge!

EveryCarbon has been selected as the winner of the SPRIND Circular Biomanufacturing Challenge by a jury of biotechnology experts. The jury made its decision on Thursday, October 15, 2026, in Leipzig, after all teams had delivered their final pitches.

The Challenge asked teams to develop an end-to-end technology prototype that processes a range of low-value organic feedstocks into new products as a continuous production process. The prototype had to show how these feedstocks can be processed by robust microbes, and demonstrate continuous production over at least 180 days during the Challenge. By the end, we had produced at least three different products based on our ECOne™ chemistry, a high-performance polyester derived from circular diols made via our production platform.

Our SPRIND journey started in November 2023 and spanned three years across three financing and technology development stages. After each of the first two years, the jury reconvened to evaluate and decide which approaches had the greatest breakthrough innovation potential and which teams could prove themselves in the Challenge until the end. Eight teams started in Stage 1 and only four teams completed Stage 3.

“We started with a bacterial strain and a sketch on paper. SPRIND set the goals and left us the freedom to find our own way, and the team made the most of it. Now we take ECOne™ to market and make every carbon count.”
— Sebastian Beblawy, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder

“We are very proud of what we have achieved together with the teams through our Challenge programme, and of how we were able to support them on their path to commercialisation through our mentoring programme.”
— Patrick Rose, Innovation Manager at SPRIND and Challenge Lead

What comes next

Biomanufacturing is not solved. Breakthroughs have so far only been achieved in niche applications, and the goal remains that the majority of bulk products, such as engineering applications of ECOne™, are made through biomanufacturing processes using locally available raw materials. The next step for us is scaling from pilot plant to industrial production and early commercial validation of our ECOne™ materials and production platform.
